Periodic catatonia is a rare type of catatonic syndrome having frequently and constantly repeated catatonic episodes. In the pathogenesis of catatonia several mechanisms have been suggested. Benzodiazepines and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) have been used as first line treatment in catatonia.
