To handle the computational challenge, we first decompose the likelihood function of the Gaussian random field with a multi-dimensional input domain into a product of densities at the orthogonal components with lower-dimensional inputs. The continuous-time Kalman filter is implemented to compute the likelihood function efficiently without making approximations. We also show that the posterior distribution of the factor processes is independent, as a consequence of prior independence of factor processes and orthogonal factor loading matrix. For studies with large sample sizes, we propose a flexible way to model the mean, and we derive the marginal posterior distribution to solve identifiability issues in sampling these parameters. Both simulated and real data applications confirm the outstanding performance of this method.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"26207759","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W4308064541","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"5R01DK130067-03","title":"Early detection, containment, and management of COVID-19 in dialysis facilities using multi-modal data sources"},{"funder_name":"National Science Foundation","grant_id":"2053423","title":"Collaborative Research: Fusing Massive Disparate Data and Fast Surrogate Models for Probabilistic Quantification of Uncertain Hazards"}],"total_grants":2,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":"green","license":"CC BY","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://arxiv.org/pdf/2011.10863","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://arxiv.org/abs/2011.10863","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.48550/arxiv.2011.10863","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1214/21-ba1295","host_type":""},{"url":"https://projecteuclid.org/journals/bayesian-analysis/advance-publication/Gaussian-Orthogonal-Latent-Factor-Processes-for-Large-Incomplete-Matrices-of/10.1214/21-BA1295.pdf","host_type":""},{"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.48550/arxiv.2011.10863","host_type":""},{"url":"https://zbmath.org/7810150","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["Statistical Methods and Bayesian Inference","Bayesian Modeling and Causal Inference","Soil Geostatistics and Mapping","Methodology (stat.ME)","Applications (stat.AP)","Computation (stat.CO)","FOS: Computer and information sciences","01 natural sciences","0101 mathematics"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Identifiability","Gaussian","Factor analysis","Orthogonality","Gaussian random field","Algorithm","Computer science","Gaussian process","Marginal distribution","Latent variable","Kalman filter","Mathematics","Independence (probability theory)","Applied mathematics","Statistics","Artificial intelligence","Random variable","FOS: Computer and information sciences","Gaussian processes","marginalization","Statistics - Applications","Statistics - Computation","Methodology (stat.ME)","Applications (stat.AP)","correlated data","Statistics - Methodology","Computation (stat.CO)"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-17T15:06:22.972983Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
