{"doi":"10.4319/lo.1981.26.6.1172","title":"The influence of <i>Acilius</i> (Dytiscidae) predation on <i>Daphnia</i> in a small pond","abstract":"<jats:p>Experiments were performed in 100‐liter cages in which <jats:italic>Daphnia pulex</jats:italic> and larvae of the predatory dytiscid <jats:italic>Acilius semisulcatus</jats:italic> were enclosed. Results indicate that individual predators have feeding rate coefficients &gt;20 liters·d<jats:sup>−1</jats:sup> on all sizes of <jats:italic>Daphnia</jats:italic> combined and that the vertical distribution of <jats:italic>Daphnia</jats:italic> &gt;1 mm long is significantly altered by the presence of this predator.
