Osteonectin and osteopontin, two proteins of the extracellular matrix, have been found to be upregulated in PDAC. In the present study the expression of osteopontin mRNA as determined in a panel of 14 human pancreatic cancer cell lines was significantly related to the growth of these cell lines in the liver of nude rats (p = 0.001); whereas osteonectin showed a trend of being negatively related to pancreatic cancer cell growth in vivo (p = 0.10). In an in vitro co-culture model of human Suit2-007 and rat AsML PDAC cells with rat hepatocytes, a clearly increased expression of OPN mRNA was found in the tumor cells. In addition, both downregulation of osteopontin with specific antisense oligonucleotides and treatment with exogenous rh-osteonectin were associated with reduced cell proliferation. In accordance with the latter finding downregulation of osteonectin was coupled with increased proliferation. This evidence supports a protumorigenic role of osteopontin and points to an antitumorigenic role of osteonectin in PDAC.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":3.713572066704308,"endowment":3.713572066704308,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"20495387","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2081491379","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":2.3859,"citation_percentile":0.87822878,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":1},{"year":2013,"count":7},{"year":2014,"count":4},{"year":2015,"count":1},{"year":2016,"count":2},{"year":2017,"count":3},{"year":2018,"count":4},{"year":2019,"count":1},{"year":2020,"count":1},{"year":2021,"count":1},{"year":2022,"count":3},{"year":2023,"count":2},{"year":2024,"count":4},{"year":2025,"count":1},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"bronze","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.4161/cbt.10.1.12161?needAccess=true","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.4161/cbt.10.1.12161?needAccess=true","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.4161/cbt.10.1.12161","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.4161/cbt.10.1.12161","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/20495387","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://mediatum.ub.tum.de/1072916","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Bone and Dental Protein Studies","dental development and anomalies","Cancer Research and Treatments"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Humans","Liver Neoplasms","Male","Pancreatic Neoplasms","Rats, Nude","Recombinant Proteins","RNA, Messenger","Tumor Cells, Cultured","Blotting, Western","Down-Regulation","Osteonectin","Gene Expression Regulation, Neoplastic","Oligonucleotides, Antisense","Disease Progression","Coculture Techniques","Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction","Carcinoma, Pancreatic Ductal","Hepatocytes","Cell Proliferation","Rats","Osteopontin"],"keywords":["Osteonectin","Osteopontin","Downregulation and upregulation","Cancer research","Pancreatic cancer","Cell growth","Cell culture","Extracellular matrix","Cancer","Cancer cell","Cell","Biology","Pathology","Medicine","Chemistry","Internal medicine","Cell biology"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-29T22:52:50.619759Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
