The patient was 75-year-old male developed bloody diarrhea. Ba-enema study showed a narrowing of the sigmoid colon and mass shadow in the cecum. Colonoscopy revealed multiple scattered ulcers in the rectosigmoid region. Lapalotomy was performed because of peritonitis. Multiple colonic perforation was observed in the sigmoid colon and the cecum. Resected specimens of the cecum and the sigmoid colon showed multiple ulcers and entamoeba histolytica was identified histologically. The patient was dead of multiple organ failure. Though amebiasis rarely occurs in Japan, it is important to keep in mind the possibility in the differential diagnosis of the inflammatory bowel diseases.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"19767382","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2322341598","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.0,"citation_percentile":0.16570688,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":"gold","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/ringe1963/50/2/50_2_335/_pdf","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/ringe1963/50/2/50_2_335/_pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://www.jstage.jst.go.jp/article/ringe1963/50/2/50_2_335/_pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.3919/ringe1963.50.335","host_type":"journal"}],"fields_of_study":["Amoebic Infections and Treatments","Diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis","Appendicitis Diagnosis and Management"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Cecum","Sigmoid colon","Medicine","Perforation","Colonoscopy","Diarrhea","Gastroenterology","Peritonitis","Bloody diarrhea","Internal medicine","Enema","Entamoeba histolytica","Surgery","Rectum","Colorectal cancer","Cancer"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-06T18:22:11.285953Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
