Transient receptor potential (TRP) channels are one such family of nonselective cation channels that have an important influence. In mammals, TRP channels consist of seven subfamilies with a total of twenty-eight members. Evidence shows that TRP channels mediate cation transduction in neuronal signaling, but the full implication and potential therapeutic applications of this are not entirely clear. In this review, we aim to highlight several TRP channels which have been shown to mediate pain sensation, neuropsychiatric disorders, and epilepsy. Recent findings suggest that TRPM (melastatin), TRPV (vanilloid), and TRPC (canonical) are of particular relevance to these phenomena. The research reviewed in this paper validates these TRP channels as potential targets of future clinical treatment and offers patients hope for more effective care.</jats:p>","journal":"International Journal of Molecular Sciences","year":2023,"id":28494,"datarank":0.7759126788320713,"base_score":3.332204510175204,"endowment":3.332204510175204,"self_citation_contribution":0.49983067652628066,"citation_network_contribution":0.2760820023057906,"self_endowment_contribution":0.49983067652628066,"citer_contribution":0.2760820023057906,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":27,"citer_count":26,"citers_with_citation_signal":18,"citers_with_endowment":18,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":null,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":false,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":null,"fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":159444,"name":"Andy Sivils","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":159445,"name":"Victoria Cegielski","orcid":"0000-0002-3800-1872","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":159446,"name":"Som Singh","orcid":null,"position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":159447,"name":"Xiang-Ping Chu","orcid":"0000-0002-6781-0468","position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":159443,"name":"Felix Yang","orcid":null,"position":0,"is_corresponding":false}],"reference_count":0,"raw_metadata":{"has_enrichment":true,"base_score":3.332204510175204,"endowment":3.332204510175204,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"36902145","pmcid":"PMC10003176","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W4322743039","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"American Heart Association","grant_id":"19AIREA34470007","title":null}],"total_grants":1,"fwci":5.1755,"citation_percentile":0.96387418,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2023,"count":5},{"year":2024,"count":13},{"year":2025,"count":7},{"year":2026,"count":2}],"oa_status":"gold","license":"cc-by","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/24/5/4714/pdf?version=1677648442","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/24/5/4714/pdf?version=1677648442","host_type":"GOLD"},{"url":"https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/24/5/4714/pdf?version=1677648442","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://www.mdpi.com/1422-0067/24/5/4714/pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.3390/ijms24054714","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36902145","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/10003176","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.3390/ijms24054714","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10003176/pdf/ijms-24-04714.pdf","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC10003176","host_type":"Europe_PMC"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC10003176?pdf=render","host_type":"Europe_PMC"}],"fields_of_study":["Ion Channels and Receptors","Biochemical Analysis and Sensing Techniques","Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptors Study","Medicine","Animals","Humans","Transient Receptor Potential Channels","Pain","Epilepsy","Signal Transduction","Cations","Mammals","TRPV Cation Channels","TRPM Cation Channels"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Cations","Epilepsy","Humans","Mammals","Pain","Signal Transduction","Transient Receptor Potential Channels","TRPM Cation Channels","TRPV Cation Channels"],"keywords":["Transient receptor potential channel","TRPV","TRPC","Neuroscience","Ion channel","TRPV4","Medicine","Transduction (biophysics)","Epilepsy","TRPV1","Chemistry","Receptor","Biology","Internal medicine","Biochemistry","Depression","Pain","Seizure","Bipolar","Trp","Transient Receptor Potential Channels","Trpm"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-06-08T21:36:40.105772Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
