In contrast to the extensively studied alterations of neural activity that occur in the basal ganglia in Parkinson's disease (PD), our understanding of the activity of the PPN remains insufficient. In recent years, however, a series of studies recording oscillatory activity in the PPN of parkinsonian patients have made important findings. Here, we briefly review recent studies that explore the different kinds of oscillations observed in the PPN of parkinsonian patients, and how they underlie the pathophysiology of PD and the efficacy of PPN-DBS in these disorders.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.833213344056216,"endowment":2.833213344056216,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"26388741","pmcid":"PMC4556974","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1663789458","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.6311,"citation_percentile":0.69309945,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2016,"count":2},{"year":2017,"count":1},{"year":2019,"count":3},{"year":2020,"count":1},{"year":2021,"count":3},{"year":2022,"count":1},{"year":2023,"count":2},{"year":2024,"count":2},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"gold","license":"cc-by","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fncir.2015.00047/pdf","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fncir.2015.00047/pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.3389/fncir.2015.00047","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26388741","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://doaj.org/article/1251051a98cb4476829457221ab6e307","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/4556974","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC4556974","host_type":"Europe_PMC"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC4556974?pdf=render","host_type":"Europe_PMC"}],"fields_of_study":["Neurological disorders and treatments","Parkinson's Disease Mechanisms and Treatments","Genetic Neurodegenerative Diseases","Deep Brain Stimulation","Electrophysiological Phenomena","Humans","Parkinson Disease","Pedunculopontine Tegmental Nucleus"],"mesh_terms":["Humans","Parkinson Disease","Pedunculopontine Tegmental Nucleus","Deep Brain Stimulation","Electrophysiological Phenomena"],"keywords":["Pedunculopontine nucleus","Deep brain stimulation","Neuroscience","Parkinson's disease","Basal ganglia","Subthalamic nucleus","Pedunculopontine Tegmental Nucleus","Psychology","Stimulation","Disease","Medicine","Nucleus","Central nervous system","Internal medicine","Oscillations","Parkinson’s Disease","Local Field Potentials"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-04T02:14:44.392554Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
