The genome of the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae encodes eight different cyclophilins (Cpr1 to Cpr8), four FKBPs (Fpr1 to Fpr4), and a single parvulin (Ess1). Remarkably, two of these proteins, cyclophilin A and FKBP12, are conserved from yeast to humans and mediate virtually all of the intracellular actions of the immunosuppressive antifungal drugs cyclosporin A, FK506, and rapamycin. The study of prolyl isomerases in S. cerevisiae has proven invaluable to understand the elusive functions of these proteins, and continues to provide new insights into their diverse cellular roles. Here we review the current state of knowledge about prolyl-isomerases in this model organism.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":4.6913478822291435,"endowment":4.6913478822291435,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"15353296","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1973873871","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"NIAID NIH HHS","grant_id":"R01 AI50438","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIGMS NIH HHS","grant_id":"GM55108","title":null}],"total_grants":2,"fwci":2.0436,"citation_percentile":0.85612833,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":7},{"year":2013,"count":8},{"year":2014,"count":8},{"year":2015,"count":4},{"year":2016,"count":7},{"year":2017,"count":7},{"year":2018,"count":1},{"year":2019,"count":3},{"year":2020,"count":6},{"year":2021,"count":8},{"year":2022,"count":1},{"year":2023,"count":6},{"year":2024,"count":2},{"year":2025,"count":2},{"year":2026,"count":2}],"oa_status":"bronze","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://article.imrpress.com/bri/Landmark/articles/pdf/Landmark1405.pdf","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://article.imrpress.com/bri/Landmark/articles/pdf/Landmark1405.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.2741/1405","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15353296","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Signaling Pathways in Disease","Toxin Mechanisms and Immunotoxins","Peptidase Inhibition and Analysis","Conserved Sequence","Cyclophilin A","Cyclophilins","Cyclosporine","Gene Expression Regulation, Fungal","Genome, Fungal","Humans","Mitosis","Peptidylprolyl Isomerase","Saccharomyces cerevisiae","Sirolimus","Species Specificity","Tacrolimus","Tacrolimus Binding Protein 1A"],"mesh_terms":["Humans","Mitosis","Saccharomyces cerevisiae","Species Specificity","Gene Expression Regulation, Fungal","Tacrolimus","Cyclosporine","Genome, Fungal","Conserved Sequence","Peptidylprolyl Isomerase","Sirolimus","Cyclophilins","Cyclophilin A","Tacrolimus Binding Protein 1A"],"keywords":["FKBP","Prolyl isomerase","Peptidylprolyl isomerase","Isomerase","Cis-trans-Isomerases","Cyclophilin","Saccharomyces cerevisiae","PIN1","Yeast","Cyclophilin A","Biochemistry","Biology","Drug discovery","Budding yeast","Computational biology","Cell biology","Enzyme","Molecular biology","Gene"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Life in Land"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-17T19:03:58.985938Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
