METHODS: We evaluated the frequency/types of bleeding disorders, and associated hematological laboratory findings, in patients with NS, using published data from 1965 to 2014. RESULTS: Of 45 studies identified, 31 included data for 428 patients with NS. Of these patients, 43% had reported bleeding, 26% had no reported bleeding and no bleed data was reported for 31%. Most patients (90%) had bleeding-related laboratory test abnormalities, but only 194 (45%) had a confirmed diagnosis of a specific bleeding disorder. Abnormal laboratory tests included: prolonged prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastin time, and other platelet-related disorders. Of the 194 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of a specific bleeding disorder, 153 (79%) had single clotting factor deficiencies, von Willebrand disease or platelet-related disorders, and 41 (21%) had multiple deficiencies including platelet-related disorders. CONCLUSION: As patients with NS can experience multiple bleeding disorders, including abnormal platelet function, clinical evaluations should be performed at diagnosis, after diagnosis, before any surgery is undertaken, and if patients become symptomatic.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":4.02535169073515,"endowment":4.02535169073515,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"30464668","pmcid":"PMC6208935","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2896407975","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":1.8546,"citation_percentile":0.83057851,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2019,"count":1},{"year":2020,"count":7},{"year":2021,"count":14},{"year":2022,"count":13},{"year":2023,"count":9},{"year":2024,"count":2},{"year":2025,"count":8},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"gold","license":"cc-by-nc","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.dovepress.com/getfile.php?fileID=45520","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://www.dovepress.com/getfile.php?fileID=45520","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.2147/jbm.s164474","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/30464668","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://europepmc.org/pmc/articles/PMC6208935","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/6208935","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://touroscholar.touro.edu/nymc_fac_pubs/1464","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.dovepress.com/evaluation-of-bleeding-disorders-in-patients-with-noonan-syndrome-a-sy-peer-reviewed-article-JBM","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC6208935","host_type":"Europe_PMC"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC6208935?pdf=render","host_type":"Europe_PMC"}],"fields_of_study":["Protein Tyrosine Phosphatases","PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling in cancer","Proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans research"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Medicine","Bleeding diathesis","Noonan syndrome","Platelet disorder","Partial thromboplastin time","Von Willebrand disease","Internal medicine","Bleeding time","Bleed","Platelet","Blood Platelet Disorders","Prothrombin time","Von Willebrand factor","Gastroenterology","Coagulopathy","Clotting factor","Surgery","Children","Screening","Surgical procedures","Bleeding Disorders","Laboratory Test Abnormalities"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-13T00:22:50.682953Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
