CHEMICAL PROTECTION AGAINST TOTAL BODY RADIATION","abstract":"The Antiradiation Drug Development Program continues to make progress in the development of agents useful for protecting animals against ionizing radiation injury. The toxicity associated with the lipid soluble agents has been reduced and their effectiveness against radiation has been increased. The water soluble agents have been expanded to include new effective functional groups, thereby increasing the flexibility in this part of the program. For the first time in this laboratory, monkeys have been protected against fully lethal doses of radiation. The chronic studies preliminary to administering these compounds to man have been initiated.
