Atherosclerosisis the most important cause of\ncardiovascular disease. Based on the severity, atherosclerosis can be graded\nhistopathologycally from Type I to Type VI. Cardiac autopsy is the main\ndiagnostic tool to study various histopathological changes in autopsy heart\nspecimens.\nOBJECTIVES: To study the histopathological spectrum and determine the\noccurrence of atherosclerosis in coronary arteries in autopsy heart specimens.\nMATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective record based study on autopsy\nheart specimens received at the department of pathology from January 2020\nto December 2021. Gross and histopathological򟿿ndings were recorded from\nutopsy register. The histopathological spectrum of atherosclerosis and its\noccurrence were studied and analyzed.\nRESULTS: A total of 141 heart specimens were considered for the study out\nof which 131 cases (92.9%) showed coronary atherosclerosis ranging from\nType I to Type VI lesions. Age of the deceased ranged from one month to\nninety two years. One hundred four cases (79.38%) were males and twenty\nseven cases (20.62%) were females. Fifty four cases (41.2%) belonged to the\nage group of 41-60 years. Type III–VI lesions were considered signi򟿿cant.\n70.87% of right coronary arteries, 76.8% of left circumʁex arteries and 76.9%\nf left anterior descending arteries showed signi򟿿cant atherosclerosis. Left\nanterior descending artery was found to be the most commonly involved by\natherosclerosis (79.4%).\nCONCLUSION: Examination of coronary arteries in autopsy heart specimens\nplays an important role in determining the cause of cardiovascular diseases\nand gives an idea about the frequency at which atherosclerosis is encountered\namong the general population.
","journal":"Indian Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology","year":2023,"id":662145,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":0,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":null,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":false,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":null,"fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1728584,"name":"M.S.
