{"doi":"10.1891/9780826161864.0004","title":"Law and Ethics","abstract":"Effective public health practice relies on the conviction that when we have compelling evidence to prevent disease in populations, we must act accordingly. However, it is not always clear that what is in the best interests of populations is also in the best interest of every individual member of the population. To navigate between public and private interests, and population and individual interests in public health, societies have established codes of ethics and legally binding stipulations to guide public health practice. These codes of ethics and law are constantly being tested, challenged, refined, and reviewed. This chapter presents questions on law and ethics that are designed to examine broad knowledge of aspirational and codes of conduct for public health research and practice across national and international domains.
