In the LEADER trial (Liraglutide Effect and Action in Diabetes: Evaluation of Cardiovascular Outcome Results), the human glucagon-like peptide 1 analog liraglutide reduced cardiovascular events in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at high cardiovascular risk.
