{"doi":"10.17605/osf.io/jq4t9","title":"Aldose reductase effects on microglia reprogramming","abstract":"Aldose reductase is the rate limiting enzyme in the polyol pathway. The polyol pathway facilitates the endogenous production of fructose from glucose. Microglia, the immune cell of the central nervous system expresses aldose reductase almost exclusively in the central nervous system. Microglia when stimulated with pathogenic/danger signals undergo dramatic metabolic reprogramming to facilitate their relevant immune function such as increase synthesis of cytokines. Tolerance and priming are two examples of innate immune memory in which microglia respond differentially to these danger stimuli.
