Lixisenatide is based on the structure of exendin-4 (1-39) with C-terminal modification. Clinical trials involving patients with T2DM have provided evidence for improved glucose tolerance, weight loss and lowered hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) causing a significantly higher percentage of patients to achieve target HbA1c compared with placebo.
