This review covers the rationale of scheduled treatment interruptions and the different strategies that have been explored. It examines the issue of autovaccination, resistance and other risks and benefits. Scheduled-treatment-interruption studies in three populations are discussed: patients who initiated highly active antiretroviral therapy during acute HIV infection; patients with successfully treated chronic HIV infection; and patients with highly active antiretroviral therapy failure.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.302585092994046,"endowment":2.302585092994046,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"15757457","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2103105658","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.7029,"citation_percentile":0.63882561,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2025,"count":1}],"oa_status":"green","license":"cc-by","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://archive-ouverte.unige.ch/unige:9285","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://archive-ouverte.unige.ch/unige:9285","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1586/14787210.3.1.51","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1586/14787210.3.1.51","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15757457","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["HIV Research and Treatment","HIV/AIDS Research and Interventions","HIV/AIDS drug development and treatment","Antiretroviral Therapy, Highly Active","Drug Administration Schedule","HIV Infections","Humans"],"mesh_terms":["Drug Administration Schedule","Humans","HIV Infections","Antiretroviral Therapy, Highly Active"],"keywords":["Antiretroviral therapy","Medicine","Antiretroviral treatment","Viral load","Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)","ANTIRETROVIRAL AGENTS","Immunology","Drug holiday","Intensive care medicine","Internal medicine"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-27T14:49:38.356581Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
