Caspofungin has in vitro and in vivo activity against Candida spp. and Aspergillus spp., which constitute the majority of medically important opportunistic fungal pathogens. Caspofungin inhibits the synthesis of the 1,3-beta-glucan, with resultant osmotic instability and lysis. The pharmacology of caspofungin is relatively complex. Trafficking of drug into tissues is an important determinant of the shape of the concentration-time relationship. Caspofungin has demonstrated efficacy in experimental models of invasive candidiasis and aspergillosis, which reflect its activity in the treatment of oropharyngeal, esophageal and disseminated candidiasis, as well as salvage therapy for patients with invasive aspergillosis.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":3.367295829986474,"endowment":3.367295829986474,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"17428155","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2134462659","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":1.3979,"citation_percentile":0.79802692,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":5},{"year":2013,"count":2},{"year":2014,"count":4},{"year":2016,"count":2},{"year":2017,"count":1},{"year":2024,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1517/17425255.3.2.263","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1517/17425255.3.2.263","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/17428155","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://research.manchester.ac.uk/en/publications/1367b9f7-1d66-4464-84e1-232a6f08dade","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.research.manchester.ac.uk/portal/en/publications/the-pharmacology-and-clinical-use-of-caspofungin(1367b9f7-1d66-4464-84e1-232a6f08dade).html","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Antifungal resistance and susceptibility","Nail Diseases and Treatments","Fungal Infections and Studies","Animals","Antifungal Agents","Aspergillosis","Candidiasis","Caspofungin","Echinocandins","Humans","Lipopeptides","Microbial Sensitivity Tests","Molecular Structure","Peptides, Cyclic","Tissue Distribution","Treatment Outcome"],"mesh_terms":["Caspofungin","Animals","Antifungal Agents","Aspergillosis","Candidiasis","Humans","Microbial Sensitivity Tests","Peptides, Cyclic","Tissue Distribution","Molecular Structure","Treatment Outcome","Echinocandins","Lipopeptides"],"keywords":["Caspofungin","Clinical pharmacology","Pharmacology","Medicine","Intensive care medicine","Antifungal","Voriconazole","Dermatology"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-03T00:18:16.884656Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
