However, some decellularization protocols can cause alterations on the structure, composition, or mechanical properties of the lung extracellular matrix. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the acellular lung mechanical properties when using two different routes through the trachea and pulmonary artery for the decellularization process. This study was performed by using the lungs excised from 30 healthy male C57BL/6 mice, which were divided into 3 groups: tracheal decellularization (TDG), perfusion decellularization (PDG), and control groups (CG). Both decellularized groups were subjected to decellularization protocol with a solution of 1% sodium dodecyl sulfate. The behaviour of mechanical properties of the acellular lungs was measured after decellularization process. Static (Est) and dynamic (Edyn) elastances were obtained by the end-inspiratory occlusion method. TDG and PDG showed reduced Est and Edyn elastances after lung decellularization. Scanning electron microscopy showed no structural changes after lung decellularization of the TDG and PDG. In conclusion, was demonstrated that there is no significant difference in the behaviour of mechanical properties and extracellular matrix of the decellularized lungs by using two different routes through the trachea and pulmonary artery.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.9444389791664403,"endowment":2.9444389791664403,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"28570606","pmcid":"PMC5453562","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2620876660","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico","grant_id":"Research Productivity modality PQIB process 311426/2014-0","title":null},{"funder_name":"Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad","grant_id":"PI14- 00280 and PI14/0004","title":null}],"total_grants":2,"fwci":1.1817,"citation_percentile":0.78426311,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2018,"count":2},{"year":2019,"count":1},{"year":2020,"count":2},{"year":2021,"count":4},{"year":2022,"count":3},{"year":2023,"count":3},{"year":2024,"count":2},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"gold","license":"cc-by","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article/file?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0178696&type=printable","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article/file?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0178696&type=printable","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://dx.plos.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0178696","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0178696","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28570606","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://hdl.handle.net/2445/130339","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0178696","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://doaj.org/article/bde8f22819a44e1cb065e2afe8de5377","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/5453562","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://repositorio.unifesp.br/handle/11600/54359","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC5453562","host_type":"Europe_PMC"},{"url":"https://europepmc.org/articles/PMC5453562?pdf=render","host_type":"Europe_PMC"}],"fields_of_study":["Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine","Electrospun Nanofibers in Biomedical Applications","Cardiac Structural Anomalies and Repair"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Biomechanical Phenomena","Lung","Male","Mice, Inbred C57BL","Tissue Engineering","Mice"],"keywords":["Decellularization","Extracellular matrix","Lung","Biomedical engineering","Chemistry","Tissue engineering","Pathology","Medicine","Internal medicine","Biochemistry"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-30T07:13:15.939662Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
