If unconscious material is absolutely barred from consciousness, as Freud repeatedly maintains, then this rupture is due not only to its impermissible content but simultaneously its form of thinking. This article posits the relationship between the unconscious and conscious not as one between two systems or entities, but rather one regulated through potentialities.
