{"doi":"10.1183/13993003.01232-2025","title":"Gene–environment interaction at 17q12–q21 locus and its role in asthma pathogenesis","abstract":"<title>Extract</title> Asthma is a chronic respiratory disease affecting more than 260 million individuals worldwide [1]. It is characterised by episodic wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and coughing, which result from underlying airway inflammation, bronchial hyperresponsiveness and variable airflow obstruction. However, the clinical expression of asthma varies widely among individuals in terms of age of onset, severity, triggers, inflammatory profiles and treatment responses.
