We then determined if adoption of a CAP guideline would improve either. Patients (N = 510) hospitalized with CAP from June 2002 to May 2003 were identified retrospectively, and chart reviews were done on a random sample (130 [25%]) of these. Physicians were surveyed before and after guideline adoption. Community-acquired pneumonia guideline implementation increased physician awareness of American Thoracic Society recommendations (5% to 40%) and use of switch therapy (60% to 86%). Such use resulted in decreased overall length of stay from 3.6 to 2.4 days (P < .05) and from 2.91 to 2.41 days (P < .05) among early-switch candidates. Early-switch therapy was not optimally used prior to implementation of this CAP guideline. Adoption of the guideline increased awareness and reduced length of stay among inpatients with CAP.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.8903717578961645,"endowment":2.8903717578961645,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"15782751","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2075363866","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":1.3364,"citation_percentile":0.80522862,"influential_citations":1,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":1},{"year":2013,"count":1},{"year":2014,"count":1},{"year":2018,"count":1},{"year":2020,"count":1},{"year":2024,"count":1},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"http://journals.sagepub.com/page/policies/text-and-data-mining-license","oa_locations":[{"url":"http://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/1062860604273748","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1177/1062860604273748","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15782751","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Pneumonia and Respiratory Infections","Emergency and Acute Care Studies","Respiratory viral infections research","Medicine"],"mesh_terms":["Administration, Oral","Anti-Bacterial Agents","Awareness","Humans","Injections","Length of Stay","Ohio","Practice Patterns, Physicians'","Pneumonia","Retrospective Studies","Practice Guidelines as Topic","Community-Acquired Infections","Guideline Adherence"],"keywords":["Medicine","Guideline","Community-acquired pneumonia","Pneumonia","Family medicine","Intensive care medicine","Antibiotic therapy","Emergency medicine","Antibiotics","Internal medicine","Pathology"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-10T01:37:40.881418Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
