{"doi":"10.1161/jaha.123.031470","title":"Abnormal Myocardial Deformation Despite Normal Ejection Fraction in Hutchinson‐Gilford Progeria Syndrome","abstract":"utchinson-Gilford Progeria Syndrome (HGPS) is an ultra-rare premature aging disorder that affects multiple organ systems, but cardiovascular complications are the most frequent cause of death. onsequently, characterizing cardiovascular manifestations in patients with HGPS is of particular interest. In prior work, diastolic dysfunction, valve calcification, and left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy were identified as the most frequent structural and functional cardiac abnormalities, whereas LV ejection fraction was preserved in most patients. Novel echocardiographic techniques such as myocardial strain imaging are more sensitive than ejection fraction in detecting myocardial systolic dysfunction but have not been previously studied.
