{"doi":"10.1159/000518234","title":"Carotid Compliance and Parahippocampal and Hippocampal Volume over a 20-Year Period","abstract":"&lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;Introduction:&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt; We evaluated the association between carotid compliance, a measure of arterial stiffness, to parahippocampal volume (PHV) and hippocampal volume (HV) over 20 years later in the Atherosclerosis Risk in the Community study. &lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;Methods:&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt; We included participants with common carotid compliance measurements at visit 1 (1987–1989) and volumetric brain MRI at visit 5 (2011–2013). The primary outcomes are pooled bilateral PHV and HV. We performed linear regression models adjusting for age, sex, vascular risk factors, and total brain volume. &lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;Results:&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt; Of the 614 participants, higher compliance was correlated with higher PHV (&lt;i&gt;R&lt;/i&gt; = 0.218[0.144–0.291], &lt;i&gt;p&lt;/i&gt; &amp;#x3c; 0.001) and HV (&lt;i&gt;R&lt;/i&gt; = 0.181 [0.105–0.255, &lt;i&gt;p&lt;/i&gt; &amp;#x3c; 0.001]). The association was linear and significant after adjusting for confounders. At follow-up MRI, 30 patients with dementia had lower PHV and HV than patients without dementia (&lt;i&gt;p&lt;/i&gt; &amp;#x3c; 0.001 and &lt;i&gt;p&lt;/i&gt; &amp;#x3c; 0.001, respectively). &lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;Conclusion:&lt;/i&gt;&lt;/b&gt; Carotid compliance is associated with higher PHV and HV when measured 20 years later, further supporting the link between arterial stiffness and cognitive decline.","journal":"Dementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders Extra","year":2021,"id":210015,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":2,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.5387,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2021-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":554278,"name":"Alen Delic","orcid":"0000-0003-1519-0807","position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":441763,"name":"J.
