It has a wide range of biological activities, including antineoplastic, anti-inflammatory, antiphotoaging, and antioxidative activities. So it would be interesting to know if naringin has an effect on aging and aging-related diseases. We examined the effect of naringin on the aging of Caenorhabditis elegans ( C . elegans ). Our results showed that naringin could extend the lifespan of C . elegans . Moreover, naringin could also increase the thermal and oxidative stress tolerance, reduce the accumulation of lipofuscin, and delay the progress of aging-related diseases in C . elegans models of AD and PD. Naringin could not significantly extend the lifespan of long-lived mutants from genes in insulin/IGF-1 signaling (IIS) and nutrient-sensing pathways, such as daf - 2 , akt - 2 , akt - 1 , eat - 2 , sir - 2 . 1 , and rsks - 1 . Naringin treatment prolonged the lifespan of long-lived glp - 1 mutants, which have decreased reproductive stem cells. Naringin could not extend the lifespan of a null mutant of the fox-head transcription factor DAF-16. Moreover, naringin could increase the mRNA expression of genes regulated by daf - 16 and itself. In conclusion, we show that a natural product naringin could extend the lifespan of C . elegans and delay the progression of aging-related diseases in C . elegans models via DAF-16.","journal":"Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity","year":2020,"id":63473,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":44,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.9547,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2020-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":336055,"name":"Yuan Qu","orcid":"0000-0002-4804-8842","position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":336056,"name":"Xiaogang Zhou","orcid":"0000-0002-2574-3973","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":336057,"name":"Jianning Chen","orcid":"0000-0002-0770-0697","position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":336058,"name":"Huai‐Rong Luo","orcid":"0000-0001-8912-6694","position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":338051,"name":"Gui-Sheng Wu","orcid":null,"position":5,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":336054,"name":"Qing Zhu","orcid":"0000-0003-0665-4753","position":0,"is_corresponding":true}],"reference_count":57,"raw_metadata":null,"created_at":"2026-07-18T21:11:24.000992Z","pmid":"32832002","pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
