Its ability to form biofilms on various surfaces contributes to its resilience and virulence. Traditional antifungal therapies often encounter challenges due to the emergence of drug-resistant strains. Therefore, exploring innovative approaches to enhance drug efficacy is crucial. In this study, we delve into the fascinating realm of nanoscale interactions by investigating the genetic response of the opportunistic fungal pathogen C. albicans to electrospun polyacrylonitrile (esPAN). Our research bridges the gap between nanotechnology and microbiology, shedding light on the potential implications for antifungal drug sensitivity. We synthesized esPAN, 335nm. Through a series of experiments, we exposed C. albicans to esPAN. Gene expression profiling revealed intriguing adaptations in the fungal cells, notably the downregulation of SOD, a key component of the oxidative stress response.
