{"doi":"10.1139/v71-001","title":"Reactions of Alkyl Halides in Fused Salt Media","abstract":"<jats:p> Passage of C<jats:sub>1</jats:sub> to C<jats:sub>5</jats:sub> haloalkanes through SnCl<jats:sub>2</jats:sub>–KCl melts results in halide exchange reactions, alkene formation, and rearrangement (including cyclization) reactions of the organic molecules. Relative reactivities, product distributions and melt composition effects are consistent with a carbonium ion mechanism in which the melt functions as a halide ion acceptor.
