Despite the achievement of complete and durable responses in a small subgroup of patients, it is standard practice that pembrolizumab therapy continues beyond complete response. Nevertheless, the incidence of immune-related toxicities gradually increases with continuing pembrolizumab therapy. We report a case highlighting the occurrence of serious induced immune-related adverse events, which were attributed to pembrolizumab in a patient with metastatic melanoma who obtained a complete response (CR) after receiving pembrolizumab for a total of 6.5 months. Although mild pembrolizumab-related toxicity persists, the patient remains disease-free 5.5 months after discontinuation of pembrolizumab. Accordingly, we believe that cessation of pembrolizumab should be considered in patients who achieve a CR because of the ongoing risk of toxicity with extended pembrolizumab administration.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.6931471805599453,"endowment":0.6931471805599453,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"19158138","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2059423835","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.0,"citation_percentile":0.12283124,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://syndication.highwire.org/content/doi/10.1136/adc.2008.139550","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1136/adc.2008.139550","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/19158138","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Mechanical Circulatory Support Devices","Cardiac Arrest and Resuscitation","Thermal Regulation in Medicine"],"mesh_terms":["Adolescent","Child","Electric Countershock","Emergency Medical Services","Emergency Medical Technicians","Heart Arrest","Humans","Male","Prognosis","Ventricular Fibrillation","Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation"],"keywords":["Pembrolizumab","Medicine","Discontinuation","Adverse effect","Internal medicine","Metastatic melanoma","Incidence (geometry)","Oncology","Immunotherapy","Cancer"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-27T17:40:15.958027Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
