The problems associated with traditional narrative reviews are discussed, as is the role of systematic reviews in limiting bias associated with the assembly, critical appraisal, and synthesis of studies addressing specific clinical questions. Important issues that need to be considered when appraising a systematic review or meta-analysis are outlined, and some of the terms used in the reporting of systematic reviews and meta-analyses--such as odds ratio, relative risk, confidence interval, and the forest plot--are introduced.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"16040886","pmcid":"PMC1720526","openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W16040886","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.0,"citation_percentile":0.00251626,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":"bronze","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://adc.bmj.com/content/archdischild/90/8/845.full.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://syndication.highwire.org/content/doi/10.1136/adc.2004.058230","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://www.jstor.org/stable/25762397","host_type":"journal"}],"fields_of_study":["Healthcare Policy and Management","Business Law and Ethics","Child","Child Welfare","Comprehension","Decision Making","Effect Modifier, Epidemiologic","Evidence-Based Medicine","Humans","Meta-Analysis as Topic","Reproducibility of Results","Review Literature as Topic"],"mesh_terms":["Humans","Reproducibility of Results","Comprehension","Decision Making","Evidence-Based Medicine","Child Welfare","Child","Review Literature as Topic","Meta-Analysis as Topic","Effect Modifier, Epidemiologic"],"keywords":["Statutory law","CONTEST","Limiting","Health care","Business","Public economics","Actuarial science","Law and economics","Economics","Law","Political science","Engineering"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-29T09:39:07.399989Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
