Human monoclonal antibodies identified antigenic sites in NA that changed early after the new pandemic virus emerged. The reactivity of ferret antisera demonstrated antigenic drift of A(H1N1)pdm09 NA from 2013 onward. Passive transfer of serum raised against A/California/7/2009 was less effective than ferret serum against the homologous virus in protecting mice against a virus with the NA of more recent virus, A/Michigan/45/2015. Given the long-standing observation that NA-inhibiting antibodies are associated with resistance against disease in humans, these data demonstrate the importance of evaluating NA drift and suggest that vaccine effectiveness might be improved by selecting viruses for vaccine production that have NAs antigenically similar to those of circulating influenza viruses.
","journal":"mBio","year":2019,"id":633015,"datarank":0.6496100010429497,"base_score":4.330733340286331,"endowment":4.330733340286331,"self_citation_contribution":0.6496100010429497,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.6496100010429497,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":75,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":null,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":false,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":null,"fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1641057,"name":"Laura Couzens","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":108116,"name":"David F.
