{"doi":"10.1128/jvi.01233-19","title":"The Capsid Protein of Semliki Forest Virus Antagonizes RNA Interference in Mammalian Cells","abstract":"<jats:p>Alphaviruses are a genus of positive-stranded RNA viruses and include numerous important human pathogens, such as Chikungunya virus, Ross River virus, Western equine encephalitis virus, etc., which create the emerging and reemerging public health threat worldwide. RNA interference (RNAi) is one of the most important antiviral mechanisms in plants and insects. Accumulating evidence has provided strong support for the existence of antiviral RNAi in mammals. In response to antiviral RNAi, viruses have evolved to encode viral suppressors of RNAi (VSRs) to antagonize the RNAi pathway. It is unclear whether alphaviruses encode VSRs that can suppress antiviral RNAi during their infection in mammals. In this study, we first uncovered that capsid protein encoded by Semliki Forest virus (SFV), a prototypic alphavirus, had a potent VSR activity that can antagonize antiviral RNAi in the context of SFV infection in mammalian cells, and this mechanism is probably used by other alphaviruses.</jats:p>","journal":"Journal of Virology","year":2020,"id":16731,"datarank":1.4508924494521969,"base_score":3.784189633918261,"endowment":3.784189633918261,"self_citation_contribution":0.5676284450877392,"citation_network_contribution":0.8832640043644577,"self_endowment_contribution":0.5676284450877392,"citer_contribution":0.8832640043644577,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":43,"citer_count":36,"citers_with_citation_signal":29,"citers_with_endowment":29,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":null,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":false,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":null,"fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":122408,"name":"Hui Zhou","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":122409,"name":"Ting Shu","orcid":null,"position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":122410,"name":"Jingfang Mu","orcid":null,"position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":88518,"name":"Yuan Fang","orcid":null,"position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":122411,"name":"Jiuyue Xu","orcid":null,"position":5,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":62391,"name":"Tao Li","orcid":"0000-0001-8349-0436","position":6,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":122412,"name":"Jing Kong","orcid":null,"position":7,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":56336,"name":"Yang Qiu","orcid":"0000-0001-5152-1242","position":8,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":122413,"name":"Xi Zhou","orcid":"0000-0002-3846-5079","position":9,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":81004,"name":"Qi Qian","orcid":"0000-0002-1735-2657","position":0,"is_corresponding":false}],"reference_count":0,"raw_metadata":{"has_enrichment":true,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"openalex_id":null,"authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":null,"license":null,"oa_locations":[],"fields_of_study":[],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":[],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-06-02T14:35:17.755221Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
