However, compared to other techniques, the achievable resolution is limited. Several techniques have been proposed to improve the resolution of the fluorescence microscope. The confocal set-up is the first of them. Interference effects can also be used to sharpen up the point spread function (PSF) in 4Pi microscopy. Another approach is the so-called STimulated Emission Depletion microscopy, which has permitted to decrease the resolution down to about 100 nm in three dimensions, and below 50 nm in either the x-y plane, or along the z-axis.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"26207759","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2072332106","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.0,"citation_percentile":0.20408163,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":"closed","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"http://proceedings.spiedigitallibrary.org/proceeding.aspx?doi=10.1117/12.545792","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1117/12.545792","host_type":"journal"}],"fields_of_study":["Advanced Fluorescence Microscopy Techniques","Photoacoustic and Ultrasonic Imaging","Spectroscopy Techniques in Biomedical and Chemical Research"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Microscope","Point spread function","Microscopy","Optics","Resolution (logic)","Fluorescence microscope","Optical microscope","Image resolution","Confocal","Materials science","Light sheet fluorescence microscopy","Confocal microscopy","Interference (communication)","Fluorescence-lifetime imaging microscopy","STED microscopy","4Pi microscope","Fluorescence","Physics","Computer science","Stimulated emission","Multiphoton fluorescence microscope","Artificial intelligence","Scanning electron microscope","Laser"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-17T19:06:20.897942Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
