{"doi":"10.1115/dmd2025-1010","title":"Enhancing Colonoscopy Training: A Modular Approach with Interchangeable Polyp Segments and Adaptive Joints","abstract":"Abstract This study assesses a new modular colonoscopy training model with interchangeable colon sections, including artificial polyps. The setup allows for rapid rearrangement of the colon manikin so that trainees are exposed to various patient anatomies in a controlled environment. Three types of joints were introduced for the modular segment colon: magnetic, threaded, and clip joints. Fourteen medical residents experienced these features by repeatedly assembling and disassembling each proposed joint. Survey results indicated that participants preferred the magnetic joint for its easy assembly despite concerns about its stability. In contrast, the threaded joint was valued for its secure fit, even though it required more time to assemble. The results suggested the need to balance realism, assembly efficiency, and stability within the adaptable colon joint design. Future research will focus on achieving airtight seals to guarantee sufficient insufflation and further enhance the procedure's realism and educational efficacy.","journal":null,"year":2025,"id":567487,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":0,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.9539,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2025-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1471853,"name":"Aaditya Ravikumar Venkataraman","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1352523,"name":"Israa Elsaadany","orcid":null,"position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":764305,"name":"Scarlett R.
