D-positive (D-pos) and D-negative (D-neg) phenotypes were determined by serology among 460 711 first time blood donors, representing 921 422 chromosomes (A). The frequency of alleles encoding D-pos and D-neg phenotypes were calculated using the Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE) for a 2 allele system (B). The observations based on serology and the molecular screen for the novel allele (“7insG“) were listed (C) and used to calculate the frequencies using the HWE for a three-allele system (D).
