{"doi":"10.1111/tid.14167","title":"Post‐acute sequelae of COVID‐19 in solid organ transplant recipients","abstract":"BACKGROUND: Post-acute sequelae of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) (PASC), defined as prolonged symptoms following an episode of COVID-19, is not well-characterized in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTR). In this study, we aimed to assess the prevalence of PASC in SOTR, its descriptive characteristics, and associated risk factors. METHODS: We retrospectively identified SOTRs with acute COVID-19 between June 1, 2020 and April 15, 2022, and abstracted demographic and medical history, characteristics of acute COVID-19 illness, and COVID-19 vaccination status. We defined PASC as ongoing/new symptoms present at 6 weeks or longer following acute COVID-19 diagnosis. RESULTS: Among 208 SOTRs with acute COVID-19, 72 (35%) developed PASC. Common symptoms were respiratory symptoms (67%), headache (40%), and difficulty concentrating (10%). Severe acute COVID-19 disease and presence of respiratory symptoms were associated with higher odds of PASC in multivariable analyses, while receipt of at least one COVID-19 vaccination prior to transplantation was protective. CONCLUSION: We found that PASC occurs in about a third of SOTRs with acute COVID-19 and has similar symptoms as described previously in immunocompetent hosts. Pre-transplant vaccination may be protective. Further prospective multicenter studies are needed.","journal":"Transplant Infectious Disease","year":2023,"id":373735,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":5,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.8648,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2023-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":395986,"name":"Karina Covarrubias","orcid":"0000-0001-6321-1241","position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1135028,"name":"Benjamin Chen","orcid":"0000-0003-4232-2457","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":992285,"name":"Rodrigo Barriola Rubarth","orcid":null,"position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1135029,"name":"Kelly Torosian","orcid":"0000-0003-4999-4627","position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1135424,"name":"Claudia Ramirez Sanchez","orcid":null,"position":5,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":740228,"name":"Ajay Bharti","orcid":"0000-0002-4807-3351","position":6,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":271746,"name":"Victor DeGruttola","orcid":"0000-0003-2772-6242","position":7,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":645873,"name":"Saima Aslam","orcid":"0000-0002-4051-5629","position":8,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1135027,"name":"Rachel Sigler","orcid":"0000-0002-8861-1150","position":0,"is_corresponding":true}],"reference_count":20,"raw_metadata":null,"created_at":"2026-07-19T01:16:07.080027Z","pmid":"37922371","pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
