{"doi":"10.1111/jsr.70204","title":"Influence of Obstructive Sleep Apnea on Maternal and Perinatal Outcomes in Patients With Gestational Diabetes Mellitus","abstract":"<jats:title>ABSTRACT</jats:title>\n                  <jats:p>\n                    The prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">OSA</jats:styled-content>\n                    ) increases during pregnancy and is associated with gestational diabetes mellitus (\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">GDM</jats:styled-content>\n                    ), although its clinical impact on birth outcomes remains unclear. We aimed to assess the effect of several\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">OSA</jats:styled-content>\n                    criteria and intermittent hypoxia in the third trimester on perinatal outcomes in women with\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">GDM</jats:styled-content>\n                    . In this prospective study, polysomnography was performed on 89 women with\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">GDM</jats:styled-content>\n                    . Insulin resistance indices (\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">HOMA</jats:styled-content>\n                    ‐\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">IR</jats:styled-content>\n                    /\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">QUICKI</jats:styled-content>\n                    ) were calculated, and biomarkers (insulin‐like growth factor‐1 (\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">IGF</jats:styled-content>\n                    ‐1), resistin, soluble endoglobulin, galectin‐3, and free fatty acids) were analysed from women and some cord blood samples using enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay. Whereas\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">OSA</jats:styled-content>\n                    did not significantly affect overall perinatal outcomes, specific\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">OSA</jats:styled-content>\n                    features—including\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">REM</jats:styled-content>\n                    ‐\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">OSA</jats:styled-content>\n                    , supine‐position\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">OSA</jats:styled-content>\n                    , and an oxygen desaturation index (\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">ODI</jats:styled-content>\n                    ) ≥ 1 h\n                    <jats:sup>−1</jats:sup>\n                    —were linked to adverse effects on neonatal birthweight and length. Moreover, apnea duration was an independent predictor of birthweight, while insulin resistance was more impaired in women with\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">OSA</jats:styled-content>\n                    and showed an inverse relationship with sleep and\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">REM</jats:styled-content>\n                    time, respectively.\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">IGF</jats:styled-content>\n                    ‐1 was elevated and demonstrated a significant predictive value for\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">OSA</jats:styled-content>\n                    , as indicated by the\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">AUC</jats:styled-content>\n                    –\n                    <jats:styled-content style=\"fixed-case\">ROC</jats:styled-content>\n                    curve.
