{"doi":"10.1111/j.1469-7793.2000.00567.x","title":"Mammalian brainstem chemosensitive neurones: linking them to respiration <i>in vitro</i>","abstract":"<jats:p>Neurones which are excited by CO<jats:sub>2</jats:sub> or H<jats:sup>+</jats:sup> are present in a number of brainstem structures in addition to the ventrolateral region of the medulla, the site at which the respiratory response to hypercapnia is traditionally believed to originate.
