{"doi":"10.1111/acem.14689","title":"A response to “<scp>Post‐Roe</scp> emergency medicine: Important considerations for adolescents”","abstract":"In reply: We appreciate the Letter to the Editor, “Post-Roe emergency medicine: important considerations for adolescents,” about our recent manuscript and agree with their important points about the specific vulnerability of adolescents accessing reproductive care. Their well-referenced contributions to this discussion strengthen our core argument that the Dobbs decision has critical implications for health equity and reproductive justice as well as the provision of emergency care education and training. We would like to emphasize that their argument applies to all emergency care settings, as many adolescents are seen outside of dedicated pediatric emergency departments. Our paper could have also better addressed the impact on access to reproductive health care and health outcomes for adolescents and other structurally vulnerable populations, such as those experiencing intimate partner violence and/ or human trafficking. The implications of this policy change have the potential to impact care and care-seeking behaviors for many patients and additional work is needed to quantify the impact of new restrictions on abortion access on emergency care and outcomes for all patients, including adolescents.
