{"doi":"10.1109/tasc.2024.3508663","title":"Design and Construction Progress of a Cryogen-Free, Shielded 23.5-T REBCO Magnet for Benchtop 1-GHz NMR Spectroscopy","abstract":"We present the detailed design and construction progress of a cryogen-free, shielded 23.5-T, 30-mm warm-bore REBCO magnet for use in benchtop 1-GHz microcoil nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. The magnet design, initially based on constant current density, exhibits a high homogeneity of <0.1 ppm over a 10-mm diameter, 10-mm length cylindrical volume or 10-mm diameter of spherical volume (DSV). This benchtop magnet features an all-REBCO composition and operates at above 4.2 K without the use of cryogens. A surface-shunting no-insulation (NI) winding technique is employed to prevent quenching during potential fault modes, enabling self-protection. The magnet comprises 50 double pancake coils, each co-wound with 3-mm width REBCO and Hastelloy tapes. This co-winding design reduces overall current density and thus stress, and increases mechanical strength within the winding. Additionally, a vibration-reduced, conduction-cooled cryostat, equipped with an iron yoke for fringe field shielding, has been designed and is currently under construction. The 5-gauss fringe field radius is reduced to 1.25 m due to the iron shield. We analytically investigate electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical properties of the REBCO coils with the iron shield.","journal":"IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity","year":2024,"id":478046,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":2,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.9632,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2024-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1085927,"name":"Fangliang Dong","orcid":"0000-0002-2788-4390","position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1085926,"name":"Junseong Kim","orcid":"0000-0002-2077-448X","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":314757,"name":"Juan Bascuñán","orcid":"0000-0003-3848-7558","position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":314758,"name":"Y.
