A new computerized stigmatoscope has been developed; it acquires aspects of accommodation more definitive than those estimated by clinical examination techniques, which confound accommodation and pupil depth-of-focus effects. Its speed and ease of use by patients predict that it could be widely employed in a clincal as well as laboratory Setting. Presbyopia, the loss of accommodative amplitude throughout life, requires corrective optics for reading. Its development during the decades of life after childhood indicates that it is not a degenerative disease. Early results, obtained by using the stigmatoscope, indicate that rates of development of presbyopia vary widely, and suggest that modification of its course might be possible.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":1.3862943611198906,"endowment":1.3862943611198906,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"19162232","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1652301220","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.0,"citation_percentile":0.09057528,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":"closed","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1109/icsmc.1988.712887","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["Ophthalmology and Visual Impairment Studies","Retinopathy of Prematurity Studies","Medicine"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Presbyopia","Accommodation","Optometry","Pupil","Computer science","Near vision","Reading (process)","Medicine","Psychology","Ophthalmology","Visual acuity","Neuroscience"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Quality Education"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-13T14:20:53.305534Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
