Due to the high density of M2M networks, efficient Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols are required to manage the access to the channel. In this paper, we consider an M2M area network composed of hundreds of end-devices that periodically transmit data to a gateway. We evaluate the performance of two Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols based on Frame Slotted-ALOHA (FSA) with Successive Interference Cancellation(SIC): Intra-frame SIC-FSA and Inter-frame SIC-FSA. By means of computer-based simulations, we have compared the delay and energy performance with respect to conventional FSA. Results show that the average delay can be reduced in a 78% and 94% by using Intra-frame SIC-FSA and Inter-frame SIC-FSA, respectively, and the average energy consumed per end-device is reduced in 18% by using Intra-frame SIC-FSA, while Interframe SIC-FSA decreases the energy consumed per end-device in a 22%.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":1.9459101490553132,"endowment":1.9459101490553132,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"19965766","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2291726614","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"European Commission","grant_id":"646469","title":"Peer to Peer Smart Energy Distribution Networks (P2P-SmartTest)"},{"funder_name":"European Commission","grant_id":"607774","title":"ADVanced communicAtions and iNformaTion processing in smArt Grid systEms"}],"total_grants":2,"fwci":0.8235,"citation_percentile":0.70386537,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2016,"count":1},{"year":2018,"count":1},{"year":2019,"count":2},{"year":2021,"count":2}],"oa_status":"green","license":"cc-by","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://zenodo.org/record/160556","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://zenodo.org/record/160556","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"http://xplorestaging.ieee.org/ielx7/7414714/7416057/07417658.pdf?arnumber=7417658","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1109/glocom.2015.7417658","host_type":"conference"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1109/glocom.2014.7417658","host_type":""},{"url":"https://zenodo.org/record/160556/files/Performance%20evaluation%20of%20Frame%20Slotted.pdf","host_type":""},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1109/GLOCOM.2014.7417658","host_type":""},{"url":"https://dx.doi.org/10.1109/glocom.2015.7417658","host_type":""},{"url":"http://dx.doi.org/10.1109/GLOCOM.2015.7417658","host_type":""},{"url":"https://zenodo.org/records/160556","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["IoT Networks and Protocols","Wireless Body Area Networks","IoT and Edge/Fog Computing","0508 media and communications","05 social sciences","0202 electrical engineering, electronic engineering, information engineering","02 engineering and technology"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Aloha","Frame (networking)","Computer science","Inter frame","Single antenna interference cancellation","Interference (communication)","Computer network","Energy (signal processing)","Default gateway","Throughput","Channel (broadcasting)","Reference frame","Telecommunications","Wireless","Physics","Successive Interference Cancellation","data collection","M2M networks","Frame Slotted-ALOHA"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":7,"sdg_label":"7.
