{"doi":"10.1103/physrevlett.83.4690","title":"An Alternative to Compactification","abstract":"Conventional wisdom states that Newton's force law implies only four non-compact dimensions. We demonstrate that this is not necessarily true in the presence of a non-factorizable background geometry. The specific example we study is a single 3-brane embedded in five dimensions. We show that even without a gap in the Kaluza-Klein spectrum, four-dimensional Newtonian and general relativistic gravity is reproduced to more than adequate precision.","journal":"Physical Review Letters","year":1999,"id":9529,"datarank":21.769767610595895,"base_score":8.887376485379763,"endowment":8.887376485379763,"self_citation_contribution":1.3331064728069646,"citation_network_contribution":20.43666113778893,"self_endowment_contribution":1.3331064728069646,"citer_contribution":20.43666113778893,"corpus_percentile":93.8,"corpus_rank":1897,"citation_count":7239,"citer_count":196,"citers_with_citation_signal":196,"citers_with_endowment":196,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"1999-12-06","authors":[{"id":63876,"name":"Raman Sundrum","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":63875,"name":"Lisa Randall","orcid":"0000-0002-2584-7588","position":0,"is_corresponding":true}],"reference_count":7,"raw_metadata":{"citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-03-01T18:20:47.508186Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
