High mortality and adverse effects later in life may offset the positive effects of catch-up growth. Here we report that the invertebrate Drosophila melanogaster also experiences catch-up growth following a period of starvation, and the relaxin receptor Lgr4 instigates this catch-up growth. Starved larvae compensate for weight loss by growing two or more times faster and starting maturation within the same time as the non-starved sibling by preventing a rise in insulin-like growth (IGF)-induced ecdysone under Lgr4 control. Our data reveal that catch-up growth is associated with a surge of insulin, not IGF, which may clarify how catch-up growth often leads to metabolic problems and obesity.","journal":"bioRxiv (Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory)","year":2022,"id":314088,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":0,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.9575,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2022-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":1013015,"name":"Ernesto Saez","orcid":null,"position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1013016,"name":"Lucia García-López","orcid":null,"position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":709791,"name":"Roberto Santoro","orcid":"0000-0001-7520-4866","position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":18052,"name":"María Domínguez","orcid":"0000-0002-3329-7862","position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":709788,"name":"Diana M.
