The cores were scored in a semiquantitative manner evaluating both the distribution and intensity of nuclear staining. BRCA1 protein expression was correlated with progression-free survival.
Results
Seventy-two of 73 cases were assessable, and there was a statistically significant decreased progression-free survival for those cases exhibiting tumor cell nuclei staining of 76% or greater (P = 0.0023).
Conclusions
Our study illustrates that a low level of BRCA1 protein expression is a favorable prognostic indicator in USC, similar to what is observed in high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma. Further studies should focus on the BRCA1 status of USCs at a molecular level and also investigate whether BRCA1 protein expression is associated with response to chemotherapy in USC.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":2.3978952727983707,"endowment":2.3978952727983707,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"23221734","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1969023321","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":1.2792,"citation_percentile":0.80874226,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2014,"count":1},{"year":2015,"count":3},{"year":2018,"count":1},{"year":2020,"count":1},{"year":2023,"count":1},{"year":2024,"count":2},{"year":2025,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":"http://www.elsevier.com/open-access/userlicense/1.0/","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1048891X24018279?httpAccept=text/xml","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://api.elsevier.com/content/article/PII:S1048891X24018279?httpAccept=text/plain","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://syndication.highwire.org/content/doi/10.1097/IGC.0b013e3182798188","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1097/igc.0b013e3182798188","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23221734","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://pure.qub.ac.uk/en/publications/7bde160f-a2fd-4b00-a677-1b6d66b76122","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Ovarian cancer diagnosis and treatment","BRCA gene mutations in cancer","PARP inhibition in cancer therapy"],"mesh_terms":["Aged","Aged, 80 and over","Female","Humans","Immunohistochemistry","Middle Aged","Prognosis","Staining and Labeling","Biomarkers, Tumor","Uterine Neoplasms","Cohort Studies","Survival Analysis","Cystadenocarcinoma, Serous","BRCA1 Protein","Tissue Array Analysis"],"keywords":["Immunohistochemistry","Tissue microarray","Serous fluid","Medicine","Staining","Pathology","Serous carcinoma","Ovarian carcinoma","Carcinoma","Ovarian cancer","Cancer","Internal medicine"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-07-27T16:49:55.663863Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
