{"doi":"10.1093/jsxmed/qdae200","title":"Sexual health among female partners of patients with prostate cancer","abstract":"Prostate cancer and its treatment can affect sexual health at many stages through a patient’s journey. Partners of patients are also impacted by prostate cancer–related sexual dysfunctions.1 We recently reported on the development and validation of a new instrument, the Sexual Concerns In Partners of Patients with Prostate Cancer (SCIPPP-F), which was designed to measure sexual quality of life among female partners of patients with prostate cancer.2 The objective of this study is to present detailed results from the SCIPPP-F questionnaire in a sample of 200 female partners from across the United States, and to examine any individual participant factors associated with sexual quality of life scores on the SCIPPP-F. Descriptive statistics were used to examine responses to the SCIPPP-F questionnaire, which has 19 questions measured on a 5-point Likert-type scale (not at all, a little bit, somewhat, quite a bit, very much) within 7 domains: (1) distress/satisfaction, (2) loss of connection as a couple, (3) active communication, (4) discomfort with communication, (5) frustration with sexual counseling, (6) expansion of sexual repertoire, and (7) non-penetrative sexual activity. In addition, the Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare median scores between subgroups of partners based on demographics (race and ethnicity, menopausal status) and relationship characteristics (marital status, relationship length).
