Overall, the rats displayed weak or no preferences for sucralose (0.25-4 g/l) over water but strong preferences for saccharin (0.5-8 g/l) over water and saccharin (1 g/l) over sucralose (0.5 g/l). The rats also preferred a saccharin + sucrose mixture to sucrose, but sucrose to a sucralose + sucrose mixture. There were marked individual differences in sucralose preferences: about half the rats preferred sucralose to water at some concentrations while most remaining rats avoided sucralose. Both subgroups preferred saccharin to sucralose. Sucralose appears to have an aversive off-taste that reduces its palatability to rats.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":3.8918202981106265,"endowment":3.8918202981106265,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"15269124","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2098414018","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"NIGMS NIH HHS","grant_id":"GM08078","title":null},{"funder_name":"NIDDK NIH HHS","grant_id":"DK31135","title":null}],"total_grants":2,"fwci":1.1127,"citation_percentile":0.77003675,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":4},{"year":2013,"count":1},{"year":2014,"count":3},{"year":2015,"count":4},{"year":2016,"count":2},{"year":2017,"count":3},{"year":2018,"count":4},{"year":2019,"count":2},{"year":2020,"count":1},{"year":2021,"count":2},{"year":2022,"count":2},{"year":2023,"count":1},{"year":2026,"count":1}],"oa_status":"bronze","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://academic.oup.com/chemse/article-pdf/29/6/523/836652/bjh055.pdf","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://academic.oup.com/chemse/article-pdf/29/6/523/836652/bjh055.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"http://academic.oup.com/chemse/article-pdf/29/6/523/836652/bjh055.pdf","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1093/chemse/bjh055","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/15269124","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Biochemical Analysis and Sensing Techniques","Olfactory and Sensory Function Studies","Regulation of Appetite and Obesity","Animals","Dose-Response Relationship, Drug","Female","Food Preferences","Rats","Rats, Sprague-Dawley","Saccharin","Sucrose","Sweetening Agents","Taste"],"mesh_terms":["Animals","Dose-Response Relationship, Drug","Female","Food Preferences","Saccharin","Sucrose","Sweetening Agents","Taste","Rats, Sprague-Dawley","Rats"],"keywords":["Sucralose","Saccharin","Sucrose","Palatability","Chemistry","Sweet taste","Food science","Artificial Sweetener","Taste","Endocrinology","Sugar","Biology"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-04T06:53:25.094306Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
