The goal of this study was to understand anthropometric data collection and dissemination procedures in a sample of HS programs serving children 3-5 years. Methods: A convenience sample of HS Health or Nutrition managers were recruited via personal contacts and HS state directors to complete an electronic survey. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (means, standard deviations and frequencies). Open-ended questions were coded using thematic analysis. All protocols and procedures were approved by the Institutional Review Board at Miami University. Results: Approximately half of the programs reported that they have a protocol in place to guide measurements (57.1%) and those measurements are primarily taken by HS staff (64.5%). Most programs explain measurements to parents (82.3%) and report that collecting height/weight data is helpful in supporting children's health (76.0%). Most programs (80.3%) provide resources to parents of children with overweight or obesity. Four themes emerged from open-ended responses: (1) Role of Community Partners (e.g., providing information that conflicts with others); (2) Communicating Children's Weight Status with Families (e.g., using sensitive communication methods); (3) Challenges Measuring Children's Weight Status (e.g., accuracy of data, children's awareness); and (4) Family Reaction to Weight Status Communication (e.g., positive or negative experiences). Conclusion: Opportunities for quality improvement include wider use of standardized, written protocols and policies on data collection and enhanced communication practices to share information with parents.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"34874782","pmcid":"PMC9464080","openalex_id":null,"authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"NCCDPHP CDC HHS","grant_id":"UR6 DP000498","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"5R37CA252113-04","title":"Testing an Adaptive Implementation Strategy to Optimize Delivery of Obesity Prevention Practices in Early Care and Education Settings"},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"1R21CA237984-01A1","title":"Sustainability of Nutrition and Physical Activity Interventions in Childcare"},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"1R03DK117197-01A1","title":"De-Implementation of Detrimental Feeding Practices in Childcare- Resubmission"},{"funder_name":"National Institutes of Health","grant_id":"5P20GM109096-05","title":"Center for Childhood Obesity Prevention"}],"total_grants":5,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[],"oa_status":"green","license":"Mary Ann Liebert TDM","oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/9464080","host_type":"repository"},{"url":"https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/full-xml/10.1089/chi.2021.0199","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://www.liebertpub.com/doi/pdf/10.1089/chi.2021.0199","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1089/chi.2021.0199","host_type":""},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/34874782","host_type":""}],"fields_of_study":["0301 basic medicine","03 medical and health sciences","0302 clinical medicine"],"mesh_terms":["Humans","Body Mass Index","Communication","Parents","Child","Pediatric Obesity","Surveys and Questionnaires","Early Intervention, Educational"],"keywords":["Obesity","Child Care","Head Start","Bmi Screening","Bmi Communication","Parents","Pediatric Obesity","Communication","Surveys and Questionnaires","Early Intervention, Educational","Humans","Child","Body Mass Index"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":3,"sdg_label":"3.
