Through an analytical, but computationally intensive, algorithm, we specifically compare power curves between 3- and 7-category ordinal logistic regression models in terms of the probability of detecting the treatment effect, assuming a symmetric distribution or skewed distributions for the placebo group. The proportional odds assumption under the ordinal logistic regression model plays an important role in these comparisons. The results indicate that there is no significant difference in the power curves between 3-category and 7-category response models where a symmetric distribution is assumed for the placebo group. However, when the skewness becomes more extreme for the placebo group, the loss of power can be substantial.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":1.6094379124341003,"endowment":1.6094379124341003,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"19767382","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2035753992","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.0,"citation_percentile":0.13805031,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2017,"count":1},{"year":2018,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1081/sta-100104744","host_type":"journal"}],"fields_of_study":["Statistical Methods in Clinical Trials","Bayesian Modeling and Causal Inference","Statistical Methods and Bayesian Inference"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Ordered logit","Statistics","Logistic regression","Ordinal regression","Mathematics","Skewness","Ordinal data","Placebo","Regression analysis","Econometrics","Medicine"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-06T15:52:05.291950Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
