MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients diagnosed with malignant liver cancer intending to receive thermal ablation including radiofrequency ablation (RFA) or microwave ablation (MWA) were enrolled. 3D US-CEUS fusion imaging was used to immediately assess the technical success and guide supplementary ablation. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (CECT/CEMRI) was performed one month after ablation to assess the technique effectiveness of the ablation. The registration success rate, duration time of 3D US-CEUS fusion imaging, technique effectiveness rate and major complications were recorded. RESULTS: In total, 76 patients with 95 tumours who underwent RFA or MWA and assessed by 3D US-CEUS fusion imaging were enrolled. The registration success rate of 3D US-CEUS fusion imaging was 93.7% (89/95), and the duration time was 4.0 ± 1.1 min. Thirty lesions received supplementary ablation immediately during the procedure. The technique effectiveness rate of the ablation was 98.8% (81/82). There were no major complications related to ablation. CONCLUSIONS: 3D US-CEUS fusion imaging is a feasible and valuable technique for the immediate evaluation and guidance of supplementary ablation during the liver cancer thermal ablation procedure.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":4.2626798770413155,"endowment":4.2626798770413155,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"28847188","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W2750498666","authors":[],"funders":[{"funder_name":"National Natural Science Foundation of China","grant_id":"81401434","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Natural Science Foundation of China","grant_id":"81430038","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Natural Science Foundation of China","grant_id":"2014A020212136","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Natural Science Foundation of China","grant_id":"2015A020214009","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Natural Science Foundation of China","grant_id":"2017A020215082","title":null},{"funder_name":"Guangdong Medical Research Foundation","grant_id":"A2015257","title":null},{"funder_name":"Science and Technology Program of Guangzhou","grant_id":"201704020164","title":null},{"funder_name":"National Key R&D Program of China","grant_id":"2017YFC0112002","title":null},{"funder_name":"Science and Technology Planning Project of Guangdong Province, China","grant_id":"2014A020212136,2015A020214009,2017A020215082","title":null}],"total_grants":9,"fwci":3.1444,"citation_percentile":0.92791878,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2018,"count":4},{"year":2019,"count":9},{"year":2020,"count":10},{"year":2021,"count":14},{"year":2022,"count":9},{"year":2023,"count":8},{"year":2024,"count":6},{"year":2025,"count":8},{"year":2026,"count":2}],"oa_status":"bronze","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/02656736.2017.1373306?needAccess=true&role=button","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/02656736.2017.1373306?needAccess=true&role=button","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/pdf/10.1080/02656736.2017.1373306","host_type":"publisher"},{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1080/02656736.2017.1373306","host_type":"journal"},{"url":"https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/28847188","host_type":"repository"}],"fields_of_study":["Hepatocellular Carcinoma Treatment and Prognosis","Ultrasound and Hyperthermia Applications","Photoacoustic and Ultrasonic Imaging"],"mesh_terms":["Adult","Aged","Aged, 80 and over","Contrast Media","Female","Carcinoma, Hepatocellular","Humans","Liver Neoplasms","Male","Middle Aged","Prospective Studies","Ultrasonography","Catheter Ablation","Ablation Techniques"],"keywords":["Ablation","Medicine","Microwave ablation","Thermal ablation","Radiology","Ultrasound","Contrast-enhanced ultrasound","Magnetic resonance imaging","Radiofrequency ablation","Ablation zone","Nuclear medicine","Internal medicine","Hepatocellular carcinoma","Fusion Imaging"],"sdg_mappings":[{"sdg_number":0,"sdg_label":"Good health and well-being"}],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-13T14:07:57.584148Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
