{"doi":"10.1073/pnas.2315248121","title":"Neuronal IL-17 controls Caenorhabditis elegans developmental diapause through CEP-1/p53","abstract":"During metazoan development, how cell division and metabolic programs are coordinated with nutrient availability remains unclear. Here, we show that nutrient availability signaled by the neuronal cytokine, ILC-17.1, switches Caenorhabditis elegans development between reproductive growth and dormancy by controlling the activity of the tumor suppressor p53 ortholog, CEP-1. Specifically, upon food availability, ILC-17.1 signaling by amphid neurons promotes glucose utilization and suppresses CEP-1/p53 to allow growth. In the absence of ILC-17.1, CEP-1/p53 is activated, up-regulates cell-cycle inhibitors, decreases phosphofructokinase and cytochrome C expression, and causes larvae to arrest as stress-resistant, quiescent dauers. We propose a model whereby ILC-17.1 signaling links nutrient availability and energy metabolism to cell cycle progression through CEP-1/p53. These studies describe ancestral functions of IL-17 s and the p53 family of proteins and are relevant to our understanding of neuroimmune mechanisms in cancer. They also reveal a DNA damage–independent function of CEP-1/p53 in invertebrate development and support the existence of a previously undescribed C. elegans dauer pathway.","journal":"Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences","year":2024,"id":438008,"datarank":0.0,"base_score":0.0,"endowment":0.0,"self_citation_contribution":0.0,"citation_network_contribution":0.0,"self_endowment_contribution":0.0,"citer_contribution":0.0,"corpus_percentile":null,"corpus_rank":null,"citation_count":10,"citer_count":0,"citers_with_citation_signal":0,"citers_with_endowment":0,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"is_dataset":false,"is_dataset_confidence":0.9601,"is_data_producer":false,"deposit_databanks":null,"is_oa":true,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"has_version_chain":false,"published_date":"2024-01-01","fair_score":null,"fair_percentile":null,"algorithm_id":"datarank_citation_only_1hop_v6","ranking_scope":"data_only","authors":[{"id":703111,"name":"Sehee Min","orcid":"0000-0001-5077-4643","position":1,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":328422,"name":"Srijit Das","orcid":"0000-0002-0402-3256","position":2,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":1247864,"name":"Johnny Cruz-Corchado","orcid":"0000-0002-6940-9870","position":3,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":349682,"name":"Andrew Deonarine","orcid":null,"position":4,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":991215,"name":"Kara Misel‐Wuchter","orcid":"0000-0002-8046-0626","position":5,"is_corresponding":false},{"id":482783,"name":"Priya D.
