We also show that significant SNR improvement is possible in this system even for a sub‐threshold sinusoid input if, instead of the commonly used narrow‐band SNR, we apply an equally simple but much more realistic wide‐band SNR definition. Using the latter result as an argument, we draw attention to the fact that the choice of the measure to reflect signal quality is critical with regard to the extent of signal improvement observed, and urge reconsideration of the practice prevalent in SR studies that most often the narrow‐band SNR is used to characterise SR. Finally, we pose some questions concerning the possibilities of applying SNR improvement in practical set‐ups.","is_dataset_classified":null,"base_score":0.6931471805599453,"endowment":0.6931471805599453,"datacite_reuse_total":0,"file_count":0,"downloads":0,"views":0,"has_version_chain":false,"is_dataset":false,"is_oa":false,"pmid":"19965766","pmcid":null,"openalex_id":"https://openalex.org/W1580365317","authors":[],"funders":[],"total_grants":0,"fwci":0.0,"citation_percentile":0.08817087,"influential_citations":0,"citation_trend":[{"year":2012,"count":1}],"oa_status":"closed","license":null,"oa_locations":[{"url":"https://doi.org/10.1063/1.1584880","host_type":"journal"}],"fields_of_study":["stochastic dynamics and bifurcation","Probabilistic and Robust Engineering Design","Ecosystem dynamics and resilience"],"mesh_terms":[],"keywords":["Stochastic resonance","Signal-to-noise ratio (imaging)","SIGNAL (programming language)","White noise","Noise (video)","Gaussian","Quality (philosophy)","Gaussian noise","Computer science","Measure (data warehouse)","Additive white Gaussian noise","Simple (philosophy)","Pulse (music)","Statistical physics","Signal transfer function","Set (abstract data type)","Algorithm","Mathematics","Physics","Telecommunications","Artificial intelligence","Transmission (telecommunications)","Quantum mechanics"],"sdg_mappings":[],"linked_datasets":[],"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"database_accessions":[],"source":"live","citation_network_status":"fetched"},"created_at":"2026-08-12T11:17:26.743196Z","pmid":null,"pmcid":null,"fwci":null,"citation_percentile":null,"influential_citations":0,"oa_status":null,"license":null,"views":0,"total_file_size_bytes":0,"version_count":0,"fair_f":null,"fair_a":null,"fair_i":null,"fair_r":null,"fair_zscore":null,"fair_rationale":null,"fair_model":null,"fair_agent_version":null,"fair_fulltext_source":null,"fair_has_llm":null,"fair_computed_at":null,"clinical_trials":[],"software_tools":[],"db_accessions":[],"linked_datasets":[],"topics":[]}
